Job Description
The Jr. System Administrator will be part of a team that is responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of all corporate UNIX environments. This includes infrastructure planning and implementation, TCP/IP and Storage Area Network management, and Linux installation and configuration.

Responsibilities:

Maintain server uptime consistent with corporate goals and metrics
Monitor customer service lines and mailbox responding to customer requests in a timely fashion
Troubleshoot customer issue(s) and escalate when necessary
Track system uptime and SLA compliance
Participate in corporate projects as needed to provide server and storage specification and to install appropriate systems
Conduct testing of enterprise Unix servers as needed
Confer with management on open issues, potential problems, priorities and projects that effect the timely completion of projects or effect project objectives
Participate in weekly configuration management meetings
Schedule/monitor production jobs using OEM and reschedule as needed
Transfer and extract files using SFTP and GPG
Skills/Requirements:

1-2+ years of experience in Solaris, Linux, or AIX server administration, with experience in RedHat Enterprise Linux strongly preferred
Above average communications skills including active listening and willingness to share information
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills: telephone, customer service, conflict resolution
RedHat, Solaris, or IBM certification preferred, but not required
Experience with ticket management systems
Customer support experience and a strong customer-service orientation
Team Player with leadership qualities and skills
Hands-on experience with file transfer protocols such as FTP, SFTP, NFS, and CIFS
Experience installing linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems
Understanding of key components of the TCP/IP Suite (DNS, NFS, DHCP)
Basic networking skills (i.e. TCP/IP subnetting and routing)
Familiar with UNIX file security
Familiar with at least one scripting language
Familiarity with SQL and a basic understanding of RDBMS
Experience monitoring system uptime using Open Source system monitoring tools

Key Metrics:

Server availability/uptime
Data backup success "batting average"
Adherence to IT change control/change management policies
Customer response time
