Engineering Modelling is a refereed international journal providing an up-to-date reference for the engineers and researchers engaged in computer aided analysis, design and research in the fields of computational mechanics, numerical methods, software develop-ment and engineering modelling.
The role of computer oriented techniques in the analysis and design of engineering structures has been firmly established in recent years. New techniques are being rapidly developed and applied in the fields of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electricity, naval architecture, mining, acoustics, earthquake engineering, transportation engineering, soil and rock mechanics, etc. These techniques make it possible to check the validity of various empirical rules which have become prevalent in engineering practice.

The Journal is intended for an expeditious dissemination of new developments in the many areas of engineering. Elasto-plastic and elasto-visco-plastic analyses with static, cyclic and transient loading situations are relevant. Contributions on constitutive models, computer analyses of physical models and adequately monitored prototype structures, application of computer techniques to design and engineering modelling of various practical problems are especially welcome.

The specific objective of the International Journal for Engineering Modelling is to support researchers and practitioners by offering the following:

modelling of different engineering problems: the great possibilities of different solutions and the freedom of choosing the model makes engineering modelling of some problems a difficult task usually asking for great shrewdness. In that sense it can be stated that computers increase creativity. Special importance in modelling is the checking of new models;
development and application of different numerical methods: each new numerical process can be developed to such extent that it can be practically used with full reliability by engineers in the analyses, design and manufacture. That entails the comparison of the numerical and experimental results and a full description of the numerical process applied to practical problems;
support to the design and manufacture: numerical analysis is very often a part of the engineering task. Thus, it is important that the obtained results are unambiguous specially due to the accuracy of the solution. The use of automatic procedures and optimization is desirable;
development of software: numerical algorithms must be comprehensive, reliable and simple for use, well documented and ready for use on appropriate computers. The software must be verified and the users educated for efficient use. Special attention is paid to the reliability of the software serviceability.
Theoretical and practical considerations must be, to a certain extent, present in any publication treating engineering analyses. The main goal of this Journal is to establish a discussion between theoreticians, in this case the authors of the software, and the practical users, on actual problems. This Journal intends to be the bridge between theory and practice in computer aided analyses, design and manufacture. The contributions from all kinds of engineering fields are welcome. The papers of educational character in the field of the computer support to the engineering analyses are welcome, too
